Question
If we cannot wake up for Alot Hashachar, or sleep after Chatsot (problem which arises in the summer if I want to wake up for Vatikin), can I still say Tikkun Chatsot after Alot Hashachar, before sunrise? Is it more important to say Tikkun Chatzot or pray Vatikin? Is it really necessary to wake up in the middle of the night for Tikkun Chatzot and go back to sleep then wake up again for Vatikin?
Answer
The time to pray for Jerusalem and say Tikkun Chatzot is between Chatzot (midnight) and Alot Hashachar (72 minutes before sunrise). Therefore the Tikkun cannot be said after Alot Hashacar. If one has gone to sleep one does not have to get up in order to say Tikkun Chatzot. Rabbi Ro'i Margalit
