Question
How to understand Shaatnez? Are wool and hemp permitted? Is the prohibition just for sheep’s wool or any other wool as well? What kind of linen is forbidden? Any sources?
Answer

The Torah only forbids the mixture of the wool from sheep or lambs and linen. See Talmud Yevamot 4b, Rambam Kilaim 10:2-3, Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah 298:1)
Linen refers to common flax, not to canvas, cotton or silk. (Shulchan Aruch Yoreh De'ah 298:1)
