Question
Hello Rabbi, Thank you for the guidance! How in-depth must I focus on the meaning of words when praying? Can I imagine what the words themselves mean or must I think of images to match? Best, Sophia
Answer
ב"ה Shalom When people pray, they should at least know what they are saying, if they don't know Hebrew. Otherwise, the prayer is just uttering words. The most essential component of prayer is that a person puts his heart into it. I don't understand what you mean by using images. I'm aware of such a technique in regard to remembering things, but one is not required to know the Siddur by heart. Once again, I suggest using a Siddur with linear translation which allows to go through the prayers easily and understanding them. After a short period of the repetition of the prayers, you will find that you may not need the translation anymore because you have familiarized yourself with different sections of the prayers. All the best
