Question
I use a charger with a timer. When the timer shuts the charger off, the charger gets no power, has no internal battery and does nothing.
Recently, the timer didn’t turn off the charger in the morning. The hearing aids had a green light glowing indication they were fully charged. Was I allowed to remove them from the charger, knowing that doing so disconnects them from the charger and turns the green light off ?
Does it matter if i cant hear without the aids?
Thank you
Answer
Shalom!
Since you really need the hearing aids to enable you to hear, you can have a non-Jew take it out from the charger on Shabbos. If you don't have a non-Jew available, you can take it out with a "shinui" – meaning taking it out in a different way than you would ordinarily do. Examples of this may be pushing It out with your elbow, the back of your hand or with a spoon.
All the best!
