Question
Hello
I will be embarking on a cruise soon; however the ship does not have a dedicated chapel/room for prayer. Where would it be permissible to pray on the ship?
Answer
ב"ה
Shalom,
Assuming, there will be at least ten men on the cruise who will request a place for prayer you may join them in the designated room.
Otherwise, the Rema in the Shulchan Aruch 94: 9 emphasizes the importance of praying in a place without distraction. You may pray in your bedroom but not opposite a mirror.( Mishna B’rura 90: 71)
You should also be aware of praying in the proper direction towards Eretz Yisrael, depending upon the direction of your cruise, Eretz Yisrael is not always in the east.
