Question
May the Chazan, or anyone else, pray barefoot?
Answer
The Shulchan Aruch (91) wrote not to stand (Daven Shmone Esre) barefoot. The Mishna Brura wrote that it is permitted in hot places where people customarily walk before important people without shoes. Since we do not walk barefoot before important people, we should put on our shoes before a prayer.
