Question
Did the Rav Kook allow playing soccer on shabbat on the basis of ta’anug shabbat?
If He did please give reference of where to find it - in your answer.
Thanks
Answer
Rav Kook (Orach Mishpat 152) categorically forbids playing soccer on shabbat because of the prohibitions associated with it (digging up the turf or flattening it, travel to the stadium etc.). Playing where there is no eruv violates the prohibition against carrying on shabbat. Similar objections are raised by the Mishna Berura (308, 158).
