Question
how does one find and recognize the other half of their soul, in this lifetime?
the other half of ones soul as in the exact other half of ones soul who incarnated into the body of the opposite gender
Answer
Shalom,
Thank you for your question. If I understand you correctly, you are looking for a way to be sure that you can find your exact match.
Before answering that, let me clarify, that I am not certain that according to our traditions, “the exact other half of ones soul who incarnated into the body of the opposite gender”. The concept of shared parts of the one soul is very complicated (as the teachings of the Ari in the work Gigul Neshamot explain). The soul is made up of many parts and levels, and the exact way they move through body and time is very complex, and beyond the scope of this answer.
However, there is a teaching that before a person is born there is a heavenly decree of who they should marry. Now the only question is how to find them! Here we turn to world of human endeavor. Like all our choices, Hashem has told us to use our human reasoning, and not any prophetic powers, to find our match. Even those who turn to Chassidic masters for a blessing, do not get informed of whom to marry.
The way to recognize such a person is through going out with them, spending time together, “checking them out” (asking others about them and their past). One should use all the dating resources normally found in the religious community.
