Question
Thank you Rav Shvat. Just to clarify, so if we use the pot filler over a boiling meat pot- that makes the faucet meat and can not be used at a later time to fill a parve or dairy pot? (Is that also the case if we drain something hot in the sink and the steam goes up to the faucet? If we wash something boiling like boiled tongue lets say, and so then the water is coming out on the tongue and the steam from it goes up the sink faucet- does that also make the sink faucet meat? [We have 2 sinks next to each other and one faucet that swivels for both of them.]) Thanks.
Answer
I'm sorry for the delay, I just saw your follow-up question right now! If in fact the un-broken water stream of boiling hot water comes into contact with meat, and actually makes it boiling hot meat or meat sauce, then the faucet which is connected through the water stream with the boiling hot meat is deemed meaty and shouldn't be used for milk or pareve. On the other hand, very often (probably usually) the meat pot and the water coming out of the faucet are not both boiling hot so it's fine. Just also make sure that the faucet and pipe stays clean. Accordingly, when you pour something boiling hot into the sink, by the time the steam rises and reaches the faucet it's no longer boiling hot, so it's no problem.
