Question
Hello Rabbi,
If I stole something from a store must I turn myself in or just repent? If it was a while ago and I don’t have the stolen item. Or do I pay them back? It would get me in trouble
Best,
Sophia
Answer
Shalom U'vracha,
You have to pay the store for the item. Do it in a way that would not get you into trouble. For example, you might say that you accidentally took extra change. Another way would be to ask a friend to give the store the money, without turning you in.
All the best!
