Rabbi Alpert was once visiting Rabbi Feinstein. On Rabbi Feinstein’s table lay a book of the Rambam, as well as an inkwell. Rabbi Feinstein had recently received a new set of gemaras. When the venerated rabbi left the room for a few minutes, Rabbi Alpert reached over to examine one of the new volumes of gemara. As he turned around, he accidently knocked over the inkwell, spilling the contents on the Rambam and the new gemara! At that moment, Rabbi Alpert wanted nothing other than that the ground open up and swallow him. Rabbi Feinstein walked into the room, assessed the situation, and commented gently "it looks better this way!" Rabbi Alpert said that, from that time on, he could never get upset at a child for spilling or breaking something.
