Question
What is the significance of the red rope tied on the wrist after a prayer? On my way to the Western Wall, a Jewish man stoped me to pray for me after asking me my name and that of my wife. After the prayers by placing his hand on my head, he then tied a red rope of wool on my right hand. Thank you.
Answer
Shalom,
This is a custom that has no basis in Jewish thought or law, and I do not know of any source for this.
It is a good marketing gimic but not a traditional custom.
